12:54PM - questions

Okay, first of all, does anyone know of a BBS or similar forum with discussions regarding Just for Laughs? I ask that so that if nobody has an answer to my next question, it'd be nice to have another appropriate place to ask...

One time on Just for Laughs there was this comedian, and at the beginning of his bit he said something about thanking "my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ", and after pausing to gauge the audience reaction, said something like "you were scared for a minute, weren't you?" and "words you do not want to hear a comedian say". Then he went on to say that he doesn't mind Christians in general and whatnot, but "some of them come off like hard-up Amway dealers" and that they "bring the worst music to parties". I'm trying to find the name of this comedian, and I'd also really like to know if this bit is available commercially in any format (for example, is it on any Just for Laughs home video, or does this comedian have a stand-up album?).

Thank you.

10:24AM - Derek Edwards links

It won't take long for you guys to realize who my favourites are. I just found a Derek Edwards fan site. There's not much on it now, but it's more informative than the official Derek Edwards page, which is really nothing more than one file among many on the agency's site.

It mentions that you can get a video of Blood Sweat and Beers, his episode of Comedy Now. Also, has a nice collection of video and soundclips, as well as a newsletter archive which tells me that his most "current" tour dates were a stint at YukYuk's in Ottawa April 14-16. Any information of future shows would be appreciated.

Anyway, here's a few more Derek Edwards links:

For those of you who play Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon, you might be interested to know that Derek is only 2 degrees away! Derek played a detective in One Week with Eric Lane, who was also in Novocaine which had a cameo by Kevin Bacon.

10:05AM - greetings!

allo allo! Welcome to cancom! As the info page says:

This community is devoted to celebrating Canada's amazing contribution to the world of stand-up comedy. Talk about your favourite comedians, post tour info, share any "brush with fame" stories, and if you're a comedian, go ahead and promote yourself by telling us about upcoming gigs and website updates.
I'm your friendly neighbourhood moderator uglinessman, and I hope this comm proves to be fun, and stuff like that. So, get posting!

To start things off, I'll mention that anyone in or near Whaletown, BC should try to go see Lorne Elliot tonight (April 24) at the Gorge Community Hall. Those in or near Jonquiere, PQ can see him at Theatre Palace Arvida on May 13. And if you're anywhere in the Yukon, you should make it a point to try to get to the Whitehorse Centre for the Arts this coming Saturday April 30 for a taping of Madly Off in All Directions.

Any time you attend any comedy gig, please post a review here shortly afterwards.
